Jordan Journal: Vegas Baby!
Posted by: lori on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 09:33 AM
A weekend getaway was just what we all needed and such a great excuse to celebrate Bevan’s birthday. The 4 of us flew to Las Vegas from Dallas, Park City and Montreal on Friday. We ate really well, shopped, danced, drank beautiful cocktails, hung out with some celebs(!), gambled (& won!) at the craps tables, shared some tears and memories about Bobby but also laughed so hard that it hurt. I hadn't seen these girls in awhile but it felt just like our days in Dallas! The whole weekend was good for the soul and I feel so fortunate for great friends.

The blog wouldn’t be complete without adding a few tidbits that are still making me laugh…

“You wanna dip yo’ meat in my sauce?”
“That’s so on trend!”
877- 2 Shutt-L (with an British accent)
“I KNOW my US Weekly and that is definitely…”
In unison, “Did he just say LAMB sausage?????”
The amazing Miles impersonator
The unappreciated tequila shots
The cheesecake lollipops!
The Aussies
The search for the pirate astronaut toy and army hat
Gorgeous heels that caused major blisters

A great video that (the talented) LeeAnn put together from the weekend. What fun!

Soccer Scoop: Matt's Soccer Retirement Party
Posted by: lori on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 08:20 PM
Matt was very reluctant to have a (belated) retirement party at all. He retired back in January but we didn't have a chance to get together as a family to celebrate his retirement until December. I finally talked him into having a little dinner with family. We had the 20 of us at Vicki and Gene's house for dinner and it was so special.

Matt didn't know but for the past year or so, I have been putting together scrapbooks to give to him that night. One book is full of pictures and soccer accomplishments from his high school days to his last year playing with the Montreal Impact.

The other book most of you already know about. I compiled almost 100 messages from teammates, family and friends for the book. I included a picture next to each of the messages; which by the way ranged from hilarious to incredibly touching. Although I put the book together, you all made it amazing. It was such a surprise for Matt. He was completely humbled by all your words and so appreciate to have all of you in our lives.

Although he didn't want a party, it turned out to be a great night where we could celebrate Matt and share stories of all the many games we watched over the years, either live in the stadiums, on TV or even on a tiny video stream through our computers.

I've included the first page of Matt's book. I think it pretty much sums up his 13 years of playing professional soccer. It was a fun ride!

Also, here is the link to the photo album from the party.

Jordan Journal: Merry Everything!
Posted by: lori on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 06:53 PM
Family Updates Christmas was particularly relaxed, fun and joyful this year. The whole family is doing well and in good health. The saying is true that you have everything when you have your health. We feel terribly blessed.

The cousins all play together so nicely. We didn't even once have to deal with a fight or a complaint. They were busily playing and having a great time the WHOLE 3 weeks while we were home! In turn, this allowed us adults to have some down time and quality conversations. I miss those endless (sometimes meaningless) conversations in the kitchen with family. That's when all the good stuff comes out!

A part of me missed not being able to stay in our home this Christmas but in hindsight it allowed for more togetherness and chaos of everyone staying together, especially at Vicki and Gene's where we had all 11 of us sleeping there some nights!

A highlight of my Christmas was talking with my Grandma Carlson in Kansas. At 90 years old and only 90 lbs now, she is slowing down but is even more grateful and sweet than ever. We can hardly hear each other's voices on the phone without crying immediately but she still musters through the tears to tell me how blessed she is to be a grandma and great grandma to so many special people. I asked her how it was possible that she always stays so positive. She said that as long as the Lord gives her strength each day, she'll be here to sing his praises. What a special gift to receive on Jesus' birthday and what a lesson to hold onto forever.

Merry Christmas....and Merry Everything!

Jordan Journal: There is nothing like Colorado weather!!!
Posted by: lori on Monday, January 09, 2012 - 09:59 PM
These photos are posted specifically for all you Montrealers that don't believe how Denver can have snowy winters yet still have warm winter days. We had a beautiful white Christmas but afterwards there were many days that we didn't need coats and even a few that the kids were outside with short sleeves.

Here is a pic of the kids playing in the snow at my parents house, the day that Matt arrived into Denver. I also had to take a pic in front of Sara's house on a warm, sunny winter day where the kids proudly wore their short sleeves. Colorado breaks all rules about winter weather. We loved feeling that strong winter sunshine!

Kid's column: Jumping away at Jumpstreet!

We jumped and jumped until they were utterly exhausted. There were dodge ball trampoline courts, trampoline walls, Tarzan ropes, and the infamous maze where Myles was always MIA! The kids had a blast and Sara and I jumped in on the fun too.

Kid's column: Denver's Dinos
Posted by: lori on Monday, January 09, 2012 - 09:25 PM
As soon as we arrived in Denver, Sara and I got planning. Before the rush of the holidays started, we wanted to do some fun kid's stuff. First stop, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to see the Dinosaurs, Mummies, Space, etc. Haven, Norah, Syd and Myles had such a great time digging for fossils, playing with wind tunnels and being chased by dinosaurs.
